MOSCOW, RUSSIA / RankWire.AI / – Russia anticipates its 2026 grain yield to approximate 140 million tonnes as farmers enter the final phase of harvesting. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev reported that farmers had already gathered over 126 million tonnes of grain. By October 2, they had threshed roughly 90% of the cultivated area. Additionally, officials project the country will produce around 35 million tonnes of oilseeds during the current year.

Compared to early September, when Russia had already harvested 113.5 million tonnes of grain, the latest figures show an increase. Oilseed collection has reached approximately 15 million tonnes. Farmers in the organized sectors have also harvested nearly 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes, with a similar volume of vegetables collected. Russian authorities stated that yields across most crop categories are exceeding their 2025 averages as fieldwork continues in various producing regions.
The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has issued an updated forecast of about 141.8 million tonnes for the 2026 grain harvest, slightly higher than previous estimates. Rosstat’s official report indicated a harvest of 141.2 million tonnes in 2025 based on their territorial assessment. During a government meeting in April, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut announced a total of 144.6 million tonnes for 2025, describing it as the third-largest grain harvest in Russia’s history. In 2024, Russia harvested nearly 130 million tonnes of grain.
Harvesting Phase Approaches Conclusion
Patrushev commented that the current harvesting pace aligns with the government’s expectations for major crops. The government continues to support farmers through various measures during the autumn fieldwork. Around 10 billion rubles have been allocated to subsidize transportation from key grain-producing regions. Export duties on grain have been suspended until the end of 2026, and duties on vegetable oil and meal are capped at August levels.
According to officials, winter sowing has surpassed the halfway mark of the planned area. Regional authorities have been urged to closely monitor planting activities, especially for winter grains. The Agriculture Ministry previously stated that farmers aim to sow more than 19 million hectares with winter crops. Ensuring farms are stocked with machinery, seed, fertilizer, and other necessary resources remains a priority as the seasonal work advances.
Current Grain Harvests Keep Near Record Levels
Recent Russian grain harvests continue to be substantial by historical standards. In 2023, the country produced approximately 143 million tonnes of grain, and the 2022 harvest hit a record of 157.676 million tonnes. The current forecast of 140 million tonnes is below these totals but remains above the nearly 130 million tonnes collected in 2024. Final figures for 2026 are yet to be announced, as harvesting persists in several regions.
These figures also reflect Russia’s broader crop production scale. Alongside grain, the government expects oilseed output to reach around 35 million tonnes in 2026. Farmers are still harvesting vegetables and potatoes, and regions are completing seasonal field work. Meanwhile, officials are progressing with winter planting preparations for the next cycle, even as the 2026 harvest continues. The official projection remains at 140 million tonnes for this year.
